Night Watcher
Star Friend
Orion made a soft bed for the star in a box. He put it next to his own bed. The star made his room glow with a warm, friendly light. Orion was not afraid of the dark anymore. In the morning, the star was still there, but it did not shine as brightly in the day. Orion was afraid the star might die, so he took good care of it. He gave it water and even tried to give it food. At night, the star would shine brightly again and make small, twinkling sounds. Orion thought the star was talking to him. He would tell the star about his day at school, and the star would twinkle back. No one else could see the star’s light. It was a special magic just for Orion.
Sky Journey
After many weeks, Orion saw that his star friend was getting smaller. Its light was not as bright as before. Orion was very sad. He did not want his friend to die. That night, the star made more twinkling sounds than ever before. Orion felt that the star was trying to tell him something. He took the star outside and held it up to the sky. Suddenly, the star began to float! It rose slowly from his hands and up into the night. Orion watched as his friend went back to its home in the sky. But the star did not go far. It stayed just above Orion’s house, brighter than ever before. Every night, Orion could see his friend star in the same place. And sometimes, when he was very quiet, he could still hear it twinkling to him.
